CHRISTIANS ENGAGED BLOG
How Do We Pray & Encourage Our Elected Officials While Holding Them Accountable?
If this title caught your eye, either you are interested in making a difference in the political realm, or you have already been investing your time and effort in doing so and hopefully from a Christian perspective. Your desire is noble and certainly noted in heavenly places….
The Revelation of Jesus
I need some perspective right now.
I feel lost in a sea of getting up, trying to fill my day, seeking to ignore what is going on around me and coping. Yes, I said it - I am trying to cope like everyone else in the world.
A Tipping Point Moment
In a new book titled The New Era of Glory, author Tim Sheets writes, “Tipping-point moments or defining moments are decided by who defines the moment. King Jesus has called His ekklesia, His ruling and reigning Body, His governing intercessors to rise up and define this moment…
40-Day Journey to Find HOPE
Do you ever wake up and want to cry because you are not sure if you have the energy to face the day? Do you go through each day wanting to finish all your tasks just so you can go back to bed? Has life become one big checklist for you?
Why We Must PRAY for our Nation
John Adams said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”[i] It follows then that if the leaders and the people turn their backs on God, not only will they forfeit God’s blessing, but it will corrupt our system of government, which protects us from tyranny….
Wake Up – Part 2 (Mark Your Houses)
Last night was the beginning of Passover – the night the Jewish people all over the world celebrate their deliverance from Egypt and the night that the death angel passed over them. They will celebrate for seven days – the Feast of Unleavened Bread - to commemorate where they had to hastily obey God and leave Egypt…
Wake Up – Part 1 (The Handwriting is on the Wall)
When we started this ministry in December, we started with a word from Romans 13:11 – “And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. Now it is high time for us to awake out of sleep…” I don’t think I completely understood what that meant for our hour of history, but I knew…
The Fight Against a NUMB Heart
Living in Dallas County, we are in the center of the storm here in Texas. We have the most cases of COVID-19 in the state. They are preparing the Dallas Convention Center to be a makeshift hospital with 250 to 1,250 beds. Also the Texas National Guard has moved into town at the direction of the Governor.
Many of us have been limiting our exposure to people outside of our homes for almost a month now (I know the rest of the state is still catching up with us)…
Is Your Tongue Pro-Life?
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” -Proverbs 18:21
Shortly after we launched Christians Engaged, the Lord put the above verse on my heart—specifically as it relates to the way in which we speak of our government officials and leaders.
As I read the content of our first few weekly 5:55 prayer texts, I came to realize that there was a disconnect within my own heart and life between my prayers on Monday and my general political conversation throughout daily life…
The Blessings of Solitude
“I live in that solitude which is painful in youth, but delicious in the years of maturity.” -Albert Einstein
As a millennial I’m always on the move—attending meetings, completing items on what seems to be a never-ending to-do list—and that’s how I like it. I consult various political clients, I teach for a college, I lead a non-profit that hosts summits to educate youth on conservative principles, and I sit on advisory boards of a few non-profits. I’m a doer, and in the past, it’s been hard for me to sit still for too long without going stir crazy. However, in the wake of this Covid-19 Coronavirus Pandemic…
What is God Doing in this Chaos?
Charles Dickens wrote in A Tale of Two Cities, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness…” describing a time in the 1700’s. In that same era, the First Great Awakening happened in America which for the most part focused on people who were already church members, pulling them away from ritual and ceremony only and making religion “personal” to the average person.
Does Dickens describe our current situation today?
Important Updates Regarding Upcoming Texas Elections
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, many election dates throughout the state of Texas have been rescheduled by our Governor.
We’ve compiled a list reflecting the aforementioned changes (this list will be continually updated as the situation continues to develop)…
Census 2020 – Much More Than You Thought
We know the story in Mark 2:1“In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world” and in verse 3 it says, “And everyone went to his own town to register”.
Our Constitution requires a census every ten years found in Article I, Section 2 which states “Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons. The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct.”
Why Prayer is Colorblind
As an African American female who loves America and loves prayer, I was recently grieved by the mocking I saw online of Vice President Mike Pence and the Coronavirus Task Force as they prayed for answers for our nation as it relates to the coronavirus.
The picture that accompanied the criticism showed white men, many with white hair, PRAYING with their heads bowed. The criticism centered on BOTH the ACT of praying and the RACE of those praying. Both under attack…
Showing Symptoms? Run to the God of HOPE!
“Now may the GOD of HOPE fill you with all joy and peace IN believing, that you may abound in HOPE by the power of the Holy Spirit.” -Romans 15:13
What do we do if we begin to show symptoms of illness?
Hope—Anchor of the Soul
“This HOPE we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast...” -Hebrews 6:19
I have always liked the picture of HOPE as a ROPE. It sounds funny - like a cool rhyme to laugh at, but it really makes sense. Our hope is attached to the promises of God and the character of God…

Coronavirus: Break Off the Fear!
I have something to say, and if you don’t want to hear it, it is probably because you most need to hear it:
It is time to break off the fear that coronavirus is producing in our world.
This is not the first time we have faced disease and terror in our nation, and it won’t be the last…
The Discipline of Personal Prayer
It has been said: “If you want to change the world, draw a circle around yourself and start with everything inside the circle.” We agree with this, so if Christians wish to change the direction of our nation, we should begin by examining ourselves. This process begins with prayer…
How Do We Choose the Right Candidate in a Primary Election?
How do we choose the right candidate in a primary election?
This can be a challenging question to answer during primary election seasons when both candidates state that they support the platform and/or the principles of the party they are representing…
