Why Prayer is Colorblind
By Dorothy Brooks
As an African American female who loves America and loves prayer, I was recently grieved by the mocking I saw online of Vice President Mike Pence and the Coronavirus Task Force as they prayed for answers for our nation as it relates to the coronavirus.
The picture that accompanied the criticism showed white men, many with white hair, PRAYING with their heads bowed. The criticism centered on BOTH the ACT of praying and the RACE of those praying. Both under attack.
I submit to you scriptures that show that we should not have a problem with the race of any group praying about any issue, PERIOD, and I pray we see the craziness of those complaints particularly when our backs are against the wall.
“Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet.” -Ephesians 6:18 - The Message (MSG)
“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.” -1 John 5:14
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” -Jeremiah 33:3
So, if our leaders, who know Jesus and have a relationship with Him, PRAY then we are promised to:
1. Still be on our feet when this is over.
2. Have confidence in HIM (not our own ability). God will receive the glory, even in this crisis.
3. The Lord will show us great and mighty things (which we would never think of on our own).
If the Lord downloads help by using someone who is a white woman, person of color, (a Black person different from a person of color), a white-gray haired man, or any person covered by any skin color God desires, we should be open to receive the answers.
Racism shouldn’t exist in our beautiful land and it shouldn’t exist in the days of the coronavirus.
The question I would ask, in light of many people (certainly not all) in our country consumed with race… If the Lord answers the prayers of a SPIRIT (a person) that happens to be housed in a WHITE body...and BLACK PEOPLE are SAVED from DEATH (including YOUR family members) ... does it matter?” (This applies to ANY race?)
Would you want them to die because your racism or sexism (yes, I said it) got in the way of the answer?
Not me!
I will take prayers for my family from ANY CHRISTIAN God-fearing spirit.
We must lay aside EVERY weight and run the race before us looking unto the Lord for answers that He WILL supply using ANYONE He wishes.
I am so thankful for the prayers that are going up all around this nation in this critical time. Let’s keep it up, children of God – red and yellow, black and white, we are ALL precious in His sight, and God hears ALL our prayers.
