The Church Has Power (and we don’t even know it!)
By Bunni Pounds
The CHURCH of Jesus Christ, all of us together regardless of denomination or worship styles, have a power at our fingertips that we aren’t using.
It is a secret weapon that isn’t really that secret, but it might as well be - we aren’t using it to it’s potential.
What am I talking about?
The power of our VOTE.
Yes, simply VOTING.
Let’s just take my city of Garland as a example or case study. Stick with me for a second and be shocked!
The City of Garland population estimate for July 1, 2018 was 242,507 persons.
In that same year - May 2018, we had an election for Mayor. There were three candidates, Lori Barnett Dodson, Louis Moore, and Lela Green.
Here are the vote totals for this Mayoral election in my city in 2018.
I want you to see this!
Lori - 3,188
Louis - 1,944
Lela - 629
Total votes cast= 5,761
That is 1.2% of the population of MY city.
There are 130 churches approximately in Garland based on what I could find on the Internet.
Let’s just crunch the numbers.
If every Garland church sent their members to the polls to vote and to have a say in who their next mayor was in 2018 that would be only 44 members per church that went out to the polls.
There are churches like Spring Creek Church, First Baptist Garland, First United Methodist of Garland, North Cities United Pentecostal, Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church, and St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church who have MUCH more than 44 members. They have close to a thousand or more.
What if the members of those churches alone were encouraged to use their discernment, be educated, and vote their values? That alone would radically change the City of Garland.
In the last Presidential election, Christians made a huge difference voting against the candidate who wanted abortion rights all the way through the 3rd trimester and voted for the flawed yet strongly prolife candidate.
George Barna, the national pollster, called it in his book - The Day Christians Changed America. (Check it out!)
Because of that day, we now have two new Supreme Court Justices who are Constitutionalists and believe in LIFE not counting the hundreds of other federal judges he has appointed.
“As of October 1, 2019, President Donald Trump (R) had made 152 Article III judicial appointments—2 supreme court justices, 43 appellate court judges, 105 district court judges, and 2 judges on the Court of International Trade. That ranked him third among all presidents since Theodore Roosevelt in the total number of appointments, first in appellate court appointments, and third in district court appointments as of October 1 of the third year of a president's term.”
For that reason and that reason alone, many Christians voted for him.
Let’s go back to the City of Garland, if one church in Sachse, Northplace Church, encouraged their members to educate themselves, pray, discern, and vote their values, not only would Sachse be changed forever, but Garland, Wylie, and Murphy.
If the CHURCH, those who are supposed to have wisdom and discernment would use this simple power called VOTING across Texas and across our nation, our local, state, and federal governments would be changed, and our lives would be changed.
We have POWER and now you KNOW.
No more excuses, Children of God! It is time to vote in every election.
Take the Pledge to vote in every election and we will help you keep that promise!
