CHRISTIANS ENGAGED BLOG
Right on the Money
Then, in 1864, while the blood still flowed across America’s fields, with no end in sight, a change appeared on the two-cent coin, ordered by the Secretary of the Treasury, Salmon P. Chase. It would be a new national motto. Simple but profound. Clear and incontrovertible, an unchanging and ancient belief that would supersede even this war.
It would be a declaration of hope. A summons to unity. While America’s original motto focused on man’s ability to create a united nation from human diversity, this new motto, expressed in plain English, anchored the nation’s confidence in divine sovereignty. It would appear on all coins.
Live Like It
Throughout the stormy centuries, for the Christian Church, the tension has remained—to be in the world but not of it. Jesus knew this.
Jesus did not pray that you and I would somehow find a way to escape this world, with all its troubles and pain. He asked God to give us the wisdom and courage to live faithful to him in this world.
Being faithful in hard times isn’t easy. We must not let the world squeeze us into its mold. “Be not conformed,” Paul told the Christians living under brutal Roman reign. Instead, they must be transformed. How? Through the renewal of their minds. (Romans 12:1-2)
Battlefield of the Mind
“If you abide in My Word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31-32 NKJV) Imprisonment often means incarceration, but being confined to a jail cell is only one definition of imprisonment.
The Spiritual Battle
He (Jesus) made the things we can see and the things we can't see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through Him and for Him. Colossians 1:16 NLT
Many years ago, God helped me understand, and better comprehend, the unseen world that exists around us. He graciously gave me the privilege to see the workings of the spiritual world through a vision.
Jesus is Coming Quickly
Christians have a foundational truth in their arsenal that puts everything in our lives into perspective. It doesn’t make sense to unbelievers, but it is what gives us joy, peace and hope: Jesus is coming back.
Are We Ready for a Pentecost Outpouring or Are We Pushing Our Proverbial Snooze Buttons?
The late Leonard Ravenhill…used to say, “Many want an Upper Room experience like on the day of Pentecost, but they’re unwilling to humble themselves on their knees at the Cross of Christ.”
Reference Point
The resurrection gives purpose and value to our labor. All our efforts to alleviate suffering, show compassion, advance justice, combat corruption, educate for virtue, and create opportunity are never in vain. Never. Why? Because Jesus Christ has risen. He lives and reigns, and in due time he will make the world over.
This One Thing
He was without recognition or honor. Or money. He painted more than 1,500 works of art in his lifetime. He sold one.
“One must go on working silently,” said the artist, “trusting the result to the future.”
The Only Way Forward
You’ve got to admit it. This guy had moxie. Anyone who takes on God directly—to his face, up close and personal—is either foolish, oblivious, blasphemous—or supremely confident of his position. Or perhaps he’s nuts.
Here was another conversation between friends. Moses talked with God with a greater familiarity than most.
Psalm 77- Cry out to God
This psalm shows that though we have experienced trouble followed by victories in the past, we are easily discouraged whenever the next challenge arrives on the scene. As the children of Israel did in the wilderness, the soul and the flesh are ever ready to forget God’s continuous flow of victories and provision.
A Magnificent Thing
It was a cool, overcast day in the city. The crowds were large and restless. People were taken by a great sense of despair and desperation. Many were hurting. They were discouraged. Still, they managed some hopeful anticipation on this important occasion. Maybe this really would be better. They steeled themselves against an unfounded optimism. They had been disappointed before. Millions had given up hope.
Psalm 65 – Remember God’s Power and Provision
How are you doing? Please answer honestly. Maybe things are going great, and you’re on top of the world! Or maybe you’re going through hard times and in need of some comfort and divine intervention. Either way, Psalm 65 is for you.
God and Country
He was short, a little over five feet tall. He was slight, barely 100 pounds. You wouldn’t pick him out in a crowd without effort. He’d likely be in the back of the room, dressed neatly in a black suit.
Reinforcing his unobtrusive appearance was a shy, serious, and quiet temperament. He spoke barely above a whisper. He was deliberative, circumspect, and judicious, careful in what he thought and said, and how he said it.
If you listened intently, he’d be worth your attempt to hear him.
Keep Your Pole Moving
The malaise of pessimism and angst cuts across party lines. Republicans, Democrats, and Independents are all depressed about the present national condition. They may have different reasons, but they are all in the dumps about the United States.
Psalm 43 – God of My Strength
Sometimes it feels like the world is against us. Many times – we feel the oppression and the pressure of a national crisis beating down on our hearts and minds. The Psalmist in Psalm 43 felt that too – so these five small verses were his way of dealing with the pressure.

40-Day Journey to Find HOPE
Do you ever wake up and want to cry because you are not sure if you have the energy to face the day? Do you go through each day wanting to finish all your tasks just so you can go back to bed? Has life become one big checklist for you?
Showing Symptoms? Run to the God of HOPE!
“Now may the GOD of HOPE fill you with all joy and peace IN believing, that you may abound in HOPE by the power of the Holy Spirit.” -Romans 15:13
What do we do if we begin to show symptoms of illness?
Hope—Anchor of the Soul
“This HOPE we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast...” -Hebrews 6:19
I have always liked the picture of HOPE as a ROPE. It sounds funny - like a cool rhyme to laugh at, but it really makes sense. Our hope is attached to the promises of God and the character of God…
