God’s Immeasurable Love for You

By: David McFadden

“For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.” Romans 5:5

God’s Word assures us of His love. We also know that His love toward us is immeasurable. Even so, as fallible humans, we often question His love. In the natural realm, when we question something, we reveal our uncertainties or reveal our fear of the unknown. However, when we question God and His ways, are we perhaps questioning His love for us? Our text tells us “we can know” we are loved because “He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.” His abiding presence demonstrates His love toward us that is so pure He is beyond question.

Our new life in Christ is based upon spiritual rebirth when His Spirit comes to dwell in us. As believers, we’ve all experienced how the Holy Spirit leads, comforts and guides us when we surrender to Him completely. Therefore, when we have questions about God, we are revealing an insecurity about some aspect of our relationship with Him. Could the disconnect result from leaning to our own understanding and operating from a natural mindset? We must remember that as genuine believers we have a spiritual Father, which means that our relationship with God is supernatural and not natural. All of this means that we are spiritual beings belonging to a spiritual family with a spiritual Father. So it should not be a mystery to us that it is “…in Him that we live and move and have our being.”

I write this to convey a revelatory truth that every Christian should carefully consider. God is always calling us to come up higher in our relationship with Him—a love relationship. As a genuine believer, your bond with God is never intended to be static—there is no such thing as “status quo” in your pursuit of Him. God always has something more for you to experience “in Him” that will bless you. Your quest to go higher will take you to new levels of security, both temporal and eternal. Why? Because His love satisfies every concern of your heart! The result is that through His immeasurable love, He will reveal your tremendous value. As you pursue Him in the secret place, your life will take on extraordinary meaning and purpose.

Here's my burden. Our abundant life in Christ depends on answering His call to come up higher, ever higher to Him. It is our intimate relationship with Him that we find our true worth through His immeasurable love poured out on us. This abiding, spoken of in Psalm 91, supersedes even our best thoughts using our temporal intellect, which will often leave us “on the outside looking in.” His ultimate plans for us are far higher and better than we can think or imagine with our natural minds.

Here's the summary and my final point. Ignoring God’s call to come higher with Him spawns the uncertainties and questions about God and His love for you. In doing so, you will miss the full measure of His eternal and glorious plans meant for you. In other words, you will mostly remain outside of His ultimate plan, and your efforts to please God can often be misguided. Establishing and maintaining a heart-to-heart communication with God engenders a love relationship that opens up the windows of heaven and His eternal treasures. Otherwise, we default to our natural mindset that will corrupt His intended outcome, the Bible calls this, “dead works.”

You may ask, “How could my efforts be misguided and miss the mark?” You cannot truly know God until you trust Him enough to experience His immeasurable love given to you and for you—accepting the revelation of His limitless love transforms your heart. Only a heart that is supernaturally transformed by God’s Spirit can properly fathom and carry the enormity of the eternal treasures He has reserved for you.

Heavenly Father, thank You for redeeming me and giving me a new life in Jesus. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit given to me to fill my heart, so I can know that I am immeasurably loved. Thank You that I am secure in my relationship with You and nothing can separate me from Your love. Thank You for leading me and guiding me, so that I can live and move and have my being in You. LORD, help me to not lean on my own understanding from a natural mindset, for Your perfect love understands my needs and concerns—I rest in You. LORD, I so much want to answer Your call to come up higher, ever higher to experience new levels of Your love for it satisfies every concern of my heart! Help me diligently pursue You as I look to do miraculous and awesome things for Your glory. LORD, I yield myself to You and surrender everything, asking You to supernaturally transform my heart. I desire to be a vessel of honor worthy of the enormity of Your eternal treasures You have reserved for me. I proclaim Your glory and ask these requests in Jesus’ name. Amen.
