Are You Registered to Vote?

By Dorothy L. Brooks and Bunni Pounds

Here at Christians Engaged we are calling the Body of Christ to action. It is time to pray, vote, and engage and to not sit on the sidelines any longer. America needs your heart in this hour.

For Christians all over Texas - this starts with TAKING THE PLEDGE and allowing us to help you fulfill the call on your life to PRAY for your nation regularly and then to VOTE in EVERY election.

In 2020, we have the March 3rd primary, May 2nd city elections, May 26th primary runoffs (if you have one in your area), in small cases you might have a city runoff, and then we have the big November 3rd general election. We want to help you.

Everything starts with registration. Here are the simple instructions to get registered to vote.

The deadline for the primary is coming up February 3rd, so do it today if you haven’t already. If you do it now, then you don’t have to worry about it for the elections ahead in 2020.

**Simple tip - If you haven’t gotten a voter card in the mail already then you are probably not registered.

Check if you are registered

Click here: https://teamrv-mvp.sos.texas.gov/MVP/mvp.do using:

·         Texas Driver’s License (TDL) and Date of birth or

·         Voter Unique Identifier (VUID), which appears on your voter registration certificate and Date of birth

·         Name, county, Date of Birth

Your voter registration application must be received in the Voter Registrar's office or postmarked at least 30* days before an election for you to be eligible to vote in that election.

You are eligible to register to vote if:

·         You are a United States citizen;

·         You are a resident of the county where you submit the application;

·         You are at least 17 years and 10 months old, and you are 18 years of age on Election Day.

·         You are not a convicted felon (you may be eligible to vote if you have completed your sentence, probation, and parole); and

·         You have not been declared by a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be either totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote.

Register, Change or Replace:

If you are not registered, if you want to change items on your registration or replace your registration, click the link below to access an informal application. You will need to know your county of residence. Very important: Complete the form then print, date, sign the form then mail it in. https://webservices.sos.state.tx.us/vrapp/index.asp

Other places to obtain an application:

In most Texas counties, the County Tax Assessor-Collector is also the County Voter Registrar. In some counties, the County Clerk or County Elections Administrator registers voters.  You may obtain an application for voter registration from the County Voter Registrar's office, the Secretary of State's Office, libraries, many post offices, or high schools.  You may request that the Secretary of State of Texas send you an official, postage-paid application.  Or, you may download an informal application, but you will be required to affix a stamp before mailing.  You may also register to vote when you apply for or renew your driver's license at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
