Ministry Resurrects Bible Leadership Principles
to ‘Rebuild America’s Broken-Down Walls’
At Eastertime, Nehemiah’s centuries-old rebuilding methods ‘could be solution for nation’s current leadership crisis’
RICHARDSON, Tex. -- The centuries-old leadership principles of one of the Bible’s most obscure servant leaders could be the solution for America’s current “leadership crisis,” a prominent Bible teacher says.
“Our nation faces a crisis of leadership,” said Bunni Pounds, a Bible teacher and former political consultant who founded the nonprofit ministry Christians Engaged (www.christiansengaged.org) in 2020.
“Ironically, Nehemiah, this faithful cupbearer to a foreign King, could have the answers we desperately need. These leadership principles helped him mobilize the people of Jerusalem to work together and rebuild the walls quickly against all odds. His story is a perfect roadmap for leaders in America today,” Pounds said.
Nehemiah: How to Rebuild the Walls of a Nation, an in-depth, 8-hour Bible study curriculum produced by Christians Engaged, launches April 3 in time for Easter -- just as a national Gallup poll reports that Americans believe their government is the nation’s top problem.
Four hundred years before the birth of Jesus, Nehemiah lived at a time when Israel was in desperate need of leadership. According to the Bible, God used Nehemiah to mobilize the people of Israel to rebuild the broken-down walls of Jerusalem in only 52 days.
“America needs this type of leadership today,” said Pounds, who produced this series for the American church after teaching it to Congressional staffers and political leaders. Her 16 years in politics and government are woven throughout this course with stories of courageous Christians walking in a hostile culture.
“God has put all of us into spheres of influence,” Pounds said. “It’s imperative we seize this moment by developing our leadership skills to make a difference in our generation and use our influence to rebuild godly values in the midst of our current cultural turmoil.”
