A Powerful Testimony on the Impact of Christians Engaged
Christians Engaged President, Bunni Pounds and Anita Scott
Dear Friends -
When we look at the state of our nation, it can be tempting to throw up our hands in frustration and just quit. Yet, in the midst of this, God is whispering hope to us. He loves to work through ordinary people just like you and I.
In November 2021, following an invitation from a friend, Anita Scott, a young middle school principal attended our first Christians Engaged conference and was deeply impacted. She felt a call from God at the conference to do what she could to help the children of her community through government.
In service to this call, she decided to run for school board in Arlington, TX the following year, but came up short.
She didn’t stop. She came back to our conference in 2022, further engaged with our ministry resources, and reached out looking for a place to make the greatest impact, and as a result landed a job as the Director of Public Policy for the Texas Homeschool Coalition.
Last summer, I invited her to a young women’s retreat that I host each year (by invitation only) for women who are called into government, politics, and ministry. At the retreat, God used Anita to minister to the other women, and beyond that He also continued to minister to her own soul as she faithfully worked within the systems of the Texas Legislature. Anita has continued to attend our ministry events throughout DFW, which have helped her to gain clarity with what God has laid upon her heart.
I will let Anita tell you in her own words what Christians Engaged means to her:
"Christians Engaged has helped me step into knowing Jesus with my whole heart wherever I go. Just under 5 years ago, I used to think loving Jesus meant staying away from the controversial realm of politics. Christians Engaged has helped to turn me right side up by showing me how to step into those arenas, realms, and conversations where I can partner with the Kingdom of Heaven to bring "His Kingdom come and His will be done on the earth." There are political realms waiting for His Kingdom to come (Romans 8:22) through the leadership of those who will say YES! Through the ministry of Christians Engaged, I have learned how to step out and to walk with Jesus even in many days hard work."
When we discuss our desire through Christians Engaged to empower 1 million Christians to pray, vote, and engage in 2024, we sometimes forget that these are individual people who are called out as leaders from their local churches to impact their communities.
In Anita’s case - she is making a huge impact in Austin, TX by working on behalf the children of Texas by pursuing all education options for their families, and standing up to protect parental rights.
