Family Policy Alliance and Christians Engaged Applaud Congressional Resolution Recognizing September 12 as the National Day of the Bible

WASHINGTON, Sept. 5, 2025 /Christian Newswire/ — Family Policy Alliance and Christians Engaged welcome the introduction of a joint resolution by Representatives Michael Cloud (R-TX) and Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA) declaring September 12 the National Day of the Bible.

The date commemorates the September 12, 1782 decision by the Continental Congress in Philadelphia to approve the first complete English-language Bible printed in America, known as the Aitken Bible or “The Bible of the Revolution.”

The resolution would designate September 12 as the National Day of the Bible, recognize the Aitken Bible as a symbol of America’s resilience and commitment to self-governance, and encourage schools, civic institutions, and communities to observe this day with programs that highlight the Bible’s significance in America’s history. Both Family Policy Alliance and Christians Engaged are named supporters of the resolution.

Representative Cloud said, “More than any other source, our Founders cited Scripture as the source for the principles upon which our nation is established. We are seeing renewal in our culture, a return to the values that once anchored us. Marking this day reminds us that the Bible is not only the bedrock of our liberty, but the living Word of God that continues to guide us as a people.”

Representative Thompson stated, “The Bible is a source of hope and encouragement for Christians around the world. I am proud to introduce this resolution observing September 12 as ‘The Day of the Bible,’ honoring when the U.S. Congress in Philadelphia approved the first English Bible printed in America in 1782. Since then, scores of Americans have found strength, guidance, and meaningful discernment of God’s Word in its pages.”

Family Policy Alliance and Christians Engaged salute this resolution. We believe that acknowledging the National Day of the Bible reinforces the central role Scripture plays in shaping character, guiding civic life, and strengthening families. We urge communities to commemorate September 12 with programs that promote Biblical literacy and reflection.

“At Family Policy Alliance, we believe the Bible is the foundation of truth and freedom in America. By recognizing a National Day of the Bible, Congress is affirming what our Founders understood. Scripture shapes the character of our people, strengthens families, and preserves liberty. We commend Representatives Cloud and Thompson for leading this resolution and urge every American to join us in honoring God’s Word on September 12,” said Family Policy Alliance CEO Craig DeRoche.

“Nothing but the gospel of Jesus Christ can renew our nation. This resolution recognizing a National Day of the Bible is a bold step forward in affirming that our freedoms flow from God’s truth. Christians Engaged warmly applauds Representatives Cloud and Thompson for advancing a day that invites all Americans to pause, reflect, and recommit to the transformative power of God’s Word,” stated Christians Engaged President and Family Policy Alliance Senior Vice President Bunni Pounds.

The resolution also connects with “America Reads the Bible,” a week-long national Scripture-reading event led by Christians Engaged, set for April 19-25, 2026, at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. Participants from every sphere of influence, from elected officials and educators to business and church leaders, will read Scripture aloud in honor of America’s 250th anniversary.

Through live readings, broadcasts, discipleship partnerships, and local gatherings, the event aims to renew spiritual foundations and unite Americans around the transformative power of God’s Word. More details are at AmericaReadsTheBible.com.
